ETG’s Near-Net Forming Excellence

Standex ETG’s Spincraft businesses possess unparalleled experience with metal spinning for industrial applications. We form complex net and near net product geometries from the most readily formable materials for both Axis Symmetrical and Axis Oval-shaped forming.

ETG spins the broadest range of materials and thicknesses up to the largest dimensions of our industry, over 5 meters in diameter.

What is Spin Forming?

Metal spinning, or spin forming, involves rotating a disk or tube of metal on a lathe at high speed. As the metal blank spins, the material is formed with tools against a mandrel to achieve the desired shape. This forming technology enables shaping input material to near net, minimizing input material and processing costs.

The Spin Forming Advantage

Spinning provides a streamlined manufacturing process to deliver a quality product with shorter lead times compared to conventional forgings.

  • Repeatable, consistent close tolerance shapes and metal thicknesses
  • Faster lead time for plate vs alternative forgings
  • Single-piece solution eliminates need for welds Material properties are controlled by spinning Consistent finishes
  • Reduced new process development

Precision Metal Forming Capabilities by Material Thickness

Standex ETG possesses some of the largest spin lathes commercially available in the world.

  • Capable of forming near net shapes and sizes up to 262″ (6,656 mm) in diameter

We routinely form materials up to these thicknesses and are always pushing the boundaries!
